How Does Cookstown Speakers Club work? Members learn the skill of speaking to groups and working with others in a supportive environment. A typical club is made up of 20 to 30 people who meet twice a month for two hours. Each meeting gives everyone an opportunity to practice not just speaking, but other sklls in a variety of supporting roles
How Are Speaches Presented? Three or more members present speeches based on projects from the Toastmasters International Communication and Leadership Program manuals. Projects cover such topics as speech organisation, voice, language, gestures, and persuasion. While the Speech Manuals offer guidance on how to construct and orgnize a speech, the topic is chosen by the individual. Almost any topic - within the bounds of decency - may be tackled.
How Are Speeches Evaluated? Every individual who is scheduled to speak is assigned an evaluator . The Evaluator will advise on strenghts within the speech, and will offer suggestions for advancement on the next speech so as to help the speaker progress in both skills and confidence.
What Tools or Help Do I Get? Upon joining Cookstown Speakers Club, each new member receives a variety of manuals and resources on speaking. Members also have access to other books as well as audio and video cassettes on speaking and leadership. They also receive the award-winning The Toastmaster, a monthly magazine that offers the latest insights on speaking and leadership techniques.
How Does Toastmasters Help With Leadership Skills? Leadership cannot be learnt in a day; it takes practice. Members build leadership skills by organising and conducting meetings and motivating others to help them. Club leadership roles and a Leadership Development Program also offer opportunities to learn and practice. Just as club members learn to speak simply by speaking, they learn leadership by leading.
Will Toastmasters Bring Benefits to My Work? Yes, as long as you embrace what Toastmasters has to offer. A company's success depends as much on communication as on sales or targets. Employees face an endless exchange of ideas, messages, and information as they deal with one another and with customers day after day. How well they communicate can determine whether a company quickly grows into an industry leader or joins thousands of other businesses mired in mediocrity. Cookstown Speakers Club will help you improve the way in which you communicate, which will bring many benefits in both your working and social life.
